River-Bottom Cleanup
Cottonwood bottom lot · Rigby, Idaho
What we did
- Mulched three old deadfall piles in place. Years of grey cottonwood limbs, cut rounds and a few big trunks, ground down right where they sat. Nothing hauled off.
- Cleared the ditch line to the bank, taking out the willow and cottonwood regrowth and the deadfall choking it.
- Kept the big live cottonwoods. The mature trees stay; what came out was the dead wood and the brush under them.
- Kept the head high over river cobble so the ground under the grass wasn't torn up.
- One day on site, start to finish.
The first pile
Same spot, morning and afternoon.

The second pile
A tall tangle of deadfall and regrowth, opened up into a clear path through the trees.

The ditch line
Brush and deadfall cleared back to the bank, live trees kept.

On the job
The T86 and mulcher working the piles and the ditch bank.

When we were done
The bottom opened up under the trees.

A few things to know. The mulch will settle and darken over the winter and breaks down on its own over the next couple of years. Willow and cottonwood like to send up new shoots from the roots, so expect some regrowth along the ditch in the spring; a light touch-up every year or two keeps it open. If anything big shows up as the mulch settles, give us a call.
Thank you, Scott, for having us out. If you're happy with how it turned out, an honest Google review helps a small outfit like ours a lot. — Wyatt
